Intent

What makes you you?

Do you do what you do out of habit?  Are you pre-destined or do you have free will?
If there's a chance of having free will, there needs to be a self that intends to take some action.
That intention is all powerful as far as your being is concerned.
Simply deciding to take a course of action is good for the soul. Whether it be a new exercise regime, a low-sugar diet, or a personal goal to try to think about kittens everyday just before noon…
The Intention to start a practice has been shown in research experiments to produce noticeable, beneficial impacts to subject accomplishment.

Just deciding to try to be more mindful, makes you more mindful.
